LIFE WITHOUT TV

 \
I almost feel "illegal" saying this but we have decided to fore go televsion in our lives. No really. The cord has been cut.( dish discontinued). It started with a billing dispute and ended with that decision. At first I did panic, after all how would Law and Order, CSI, Criminal minds The Good wife and 60 Minutes survive without me? And that is just a partial listing.

So what have I done this last week? I have read 3 books and quilted 2 customer quilts, and wrote instructions for an upcoming class( a whole week ahead!)

This is one of the quilts I will give back on Wed. I used Sands of Time by Superior. It is a King Tut thread. I learned a long time ago how well tan goes with scrap quilts, especially in  traditional colors. I think I will try some new blocks and do some studio cleaning. And It is only Monday!

When I lived in Miami, there was an antenna on the apartment building so I got local channels. When I moved back to NY I refused to pay for cable and there was no antenna. July will be 5 years without tv and I don't miss it! I do have access to a wonderful library system that carries lots of tv series on DVD. Good luck!

You will be amazed...after the withdrawl ends...how much you really don't miss it. We never hooked up our TV after we moved because we would need a dish. So we get by on Netflix, Amazon Prime and the weekly Grimm episode online. You will have so much time to sew and craft! And if you don't mind being behind the crowd it's fun to watch the entire season of something straight through without commercials. You will be amazed at what you catch in shows that you would have missed or forgotten while waiting for the weekly episode:)

Good for you! We've only ever had rabbit ears. With the digital switchover, all the major networks come in crystal clear for free. Who needs all those other channels:)

Well, all I can say is bless your heart. I know I couldn't do it. It's my background noise and I'd go through withdrawals without Project Runway and Grey's Anatomy. Hope to see you at the next guild meeting.

My friends lament they don't have time to quilt. And my reply is well I don't have time to watch TV. I really don't. The only time I do watch something is when I have the DVD. So I'm not really missing out I suppose, it's just on my own terms.

We're in transition so we cancelled tv quite a few months ago. We still watch a few shows but it's via an on-demand online thing. When I was in my studio it was amazing how much I was able to get done without the mindless empty tv that I tended to watch during the day. Of course part of the time has also been filled with more reading but I don't miss the countless reruns that I'd fill my days with. It truly is a boob tube at times, isn't it?

While I haven't disconnected from my cable, I have taken streaks of a year or two with virtually no TV. And I've recently discovered the joy of "on demand" which allows me to watch my favorite shows at my favorite time (that is before 10pm on a week night!). It is amazing how much time it frees up. :-)
